A Slice of Blog 3
Posted March 11th, 2007 by jhunyPrevious: A Slice of Blog 2 - The Commonwealth Games Edition.
I'm feeling a bit lost for things to blog about so I'm just going to give out a bit of link love. Besides, it's been a while since I have done one of these...
Only a few days ago I had a discussion with someone about how I've been lucky enough to have never fallen while I was dancing. Lesson number 1: Never state anything like that as you are pretty much guaranteeing that you will be meeting the floor at the soonest possible date.
Here's another perspective on the life of a dancer. There's lots of travelling and photos, which is quite familiar to anyone that's read my blog here, but there's also more pointed feet (we also point our feet in Bangarra, but we also flex them, sickle them, "Barbie foot" them...) and not enough gay bars. Well, actually, I guess there isn't alot of mention about gay bars here either. Anyway, the writing is terrific and he loves a bit of Lily Allen so it's two thumbs up from me...
Closely related is this site:
The Winger
Bringing together the global dance community via the internet.
I just have to say this: I WANT ONE. One of these sites, I mean. It's such a good idea, and well done to Kristin for getting it done. It's very "Ballet slash American"-centric but there's a few exceptions and, besides, no whingeing, there's always the option of offering to contribute to change that... Or, make your own... hmm...
Simon Jobling (aka OnePhatDJ)

I heard this track in a DJ mix way back in 2002 and was hooked. I had to find out what the track was and where I could get it. I managed to dig up a white label copy on eBay and paid a fortune for it to be shipped to me.
Web Developer by day, podcast DJ whenever he can fit it in. And his mixes are pretty cool, too, so check them out. Not as good as mine, though but, hey, I don't have a child to take care of...
Ooops! I'd better put a gay link on the page. This will do:
GayGamer.net
- For boys who like boys who like joysticks. And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
But, I do remember that we often played games together with our next door neighbors. And one game I remember distinctly at these gatherings Barbie, for the NES.
Of course there are gays in computer games. Just look at Ash, from Bare Knuckles 3, here to the left. He looks like he's on his way to a leather club. Don't mess with him, though, 'cos he's good with his fists... in so many ways!
And that's all I feel like sharing today...
Error 509
Posted February 1st, 2007 by jhunyI had installed an audio feature to allow y'all to download my mixes but unfortunately posted the link to Blentwell. The result being a massive increase in downloads which shut down the site. Oops!
Lucky for me it all happened near the end of the month so I only had to wait a couple of days for the bandwidth usage level to reset. Even so, I was anxious to have it offline even for that short amount of time. Just in case I have disabled the download feature for now, which is a real shame because I really wanted to have it all come from here. So much for trying to get a little bit of extra traffic!
But do enjoy the mixes, even if they are being kept elsewhere!
Put off part two.
Posted November 6th, 2006 by jhunyI've been back from o/s for the last four weeks. It's been difficult trying to find inspiration to blog when I'm adjusting down to Sydney from the sensory hyperstimulation that is London and Paris, whilst fretting about next year's contract with Bangarra as well as an impending milestone of the birthday variety looming in the not too distant future (and it's my first one that's ended with a zero and divisible by three...)
Lots of cool things have happened but how could I possibly address them when there's been things I haven't wanted to blog that are nevertheless more blogworthy? Like why should I blog about, say, how much I'm loving Robbie Williams's new album when I'm being introspective? Sure I could blog about that but, well, that's rather a bit too personal don't you think? I don't generally like to reveal too much about myself but I have a blog??? That has my name on it? Hmm...
And I get nervous when people in real-life talk about my blog. I think I would much rather have them leave comments. What goes on tour stays on tour, the second rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about fight club and for God's sake if you want to respond to my blog LEAVE A COMMENT! I'll be more than happy to respond.
Sorry that you have to register to do that but I had been getting comment spam. I hate comment spam.
And now maybe I can start talking about interesting things now. Like: "How cool is Robbie right now?"
PS and for all you IE6 crew, I've tweaked it a bit. Satisfied?
Put off
Posted October 11th, 2006 by jhunyAll you bitches need to get a decent browser 'cos this page looks fine to me and I use Firefox and Opera. In fact it looks better than alright, it looks damn pretty. I had upgraded my drupal installation and lost a few ie fixes but, being overseas for the last month, I had no idea that it looked bad.
But I will fix it up for you plebs with the old Internet Explorer. But don't think I'm happy about the situation.
Also, I've been getting comment spam. Screw you comment spammers. Now I'm increasing the level of authorisation required to leave comments. I would much rather legitimate comment makers not have to register onto this blog just to leave a message. I hate spam.
Speaking of comments I've been getting some strange stalker-like messages referring to people I know. Screw you guys, if you can't meet my friends in the good old fashioned way then don't think I'm going to help you out. If you want a date with her then fly over here to Australia and ask her out your bloody self! Actually on second thoughts, don't. I don't mind getting the odd request from decent fans but, fuck, some people need to get a life.
I'm glad to get all of that off my chest.
Internet Explorer ruins site launch.
Posted June 28th, 2006 by jhuny
Firefox was rendering my site quite nicely. I had all just cleaned up the mix. I had set up some of the blog topics and had categorised some of the posts into them. I had set up a link from the old blog to here so that all my readers knew where to go. All was well...
Until I checked the site out on Internet Explorer.
The sidebars were in the wrong spot and Internet Explorer had decided to add indents to the start of each post. Initially I wasn't too concerned with the indent and wanted to fix the sidebars but it took an hour to realise that the indents were causing the problem. Once that was fixed, all was fine (well, not quite... but I'm not telling you what's wrong! It'll all be fixed soon...) but it sucked that it happened in the first place. And I've only checked it in ie6 and have not had a chance to look at it in ie5. But do I really care? If you're still using ie5 you obviously don't care that much about the internet so there's no point in hacking the code for you lot. Upgrade goddammit! If not Firefox then try Opera. It would make life a whole lot easier!

I really am! Honest!
Posted June 22nd, 2006 by jhunyNo amount of pink stripes and headings can disguise the fact that this blog has not been very gay lately. That thought occurred to me as I'm reading the various blog posts collected at Pinkboard and through all the whingeing and carrying on about rehabilitation, and touring around the country, all I've got in the last three months that suggests same-sex orientation is a cursory mention of the mystery man JPB and some random comment from an ex-housemate.
Well anyway here goes nothing: I AM GAY.
I'm so happy (gay, even) to hear that Kylie's touring again. I think that my ticket is for her first performance back, which will be amazing to go to. I was sitting in a cafe in Toowoomba and they were playing Kylie's Showgirl DVD and I was watching her perform Red Blooded Woman thinking "wow this is so gay".
The movie channels at the hotels that we've stayed at have all been playing Brokeback Mountain.
I'm glad I got that off my chest.

PS I know that QP did a similar kind of post yesterday but at the very least he was being QueerActivist. I've just been a dancer (and, no, I've met enough straight male dancers, you can't just make any kinds of assumptions!).

More athletes need to blog. The next couple provide some insight into the world of elite swimming:
SwimSean - Life Around Swimming
I'm learning now that my moods can be very volatile. Some days I love my swimming and can't wait to get to the pool, then the next day I'll be looking for any excuse not to go.
Owen Morgan
Looking back I possibly just needed to relax and let it flow a bit more. Plenty more in the tank I fear...
Hmm... I was hoping to find a few more blogs. Oh well... moving on...
daily dancer
My dancing inspirations are characters like Napoleon Dynamite, who are geeks like myself, but don't let that stop them from sharing their passions for dancing.
I'm a bit partial to the odd bit of daggy dancing myself! To think that someone felt the need to post one daggy dance every couple of days or so is funny. You just have to appreciate the commitment to express geekiness through dance.
Camera Toss (The Blog)
Basic tossing tips: 1. Be careful - Yes it sounds obvious...
No shit! Anyway, some of the pictures that emerge look quite interesting. Certainly some are intriguing enough to make you wonder just how the photographer managed to create some of the patterns. But probably most intriguing thing is the idea that someone would endanger a handful of expensive technology for a pretty picture. If you have questionable hand-eye co-ordination I would suggest you not try this at home and let others do the work.

When I showed my Marine Biology class the film [Brokeback High], the snuggle scene --which I might add was very tastefully done-- was left in. Apparently the administration thought that this was a big enough violation to warrant an expulsion. Only, it’s not being called an expulsion.
Quite articulate for a straight boy. Even more compelling is the fight he's having with the school administration, the local media... Is this all a crap publicity stunt to further his career in filmmaking? As Brandon says in his blog, we'll see where this goes.

Goldfrapp, Madonna and hit-making.
Posted December 10th, 2005 by jhunyI'm not a particularly big fan of Madonna's music. I can't get passionate about the music she puts out there. I think her persona is far more fascinating for me and for a lot of people.
You make a few well-timed comments about Madonna and suddenly there's alot more interest about you than usual. In Goldfrapp's case, Madonna takes a few pointers from you ("Like It Or Not", a track off the latest album that I'm starting to like more...), you make a few comments and suddenly everyone's asking questions. Or, in my case, you devote some blog space talking about Madonna's new single and album and suddenly your hits counter is going ballistic or, more realistically, it splutters around the 50 per day mark and then goes all quiet again. Kylie doesn't have that kind of effect, even after talking about the televised snippets of her Showgirl concert. And now that the initial excitement about Madonna's new album has died down a bit I don't know if this desperate ditch for hits will attract that kind of attention again.
It's been on my mind for a while now: What do I have to do to get hits? As a gay blog there aren't nearly enough pictures of naked men and stories of exciting sexcapades to entice the pink readers but I just simply don't want to do that. In terms of pop culture I guess my taste lies in the no-man's-land between the overly maintstream and the downright geeky. And contemporary dance has never had a large audience, on stage or in blog space. Sure, I started this thing (almost twelve months ago now!) for my own interest but now that there is a bit of an audience out there, why not try to get MORE of an audience? Without losing the "essence of Jhuny"...
A few concise and well-timed references to things that would conceivably generate alot of hits?
I've got a couple of weeks in the middle of nowhere to have a think about it some more. In anycase, this site is due for a re-design anyway...

Ever see someone blog in kriol before? Read a bit of Alawa? Well here's your chance! The thing that I love most about this blogger is that his everyday work is quite extraordinary. Culture continues to be threatened and, although there isn't any explicit prohibition of speaking traditional languagues, there's still the problem of John Howard, not to mention the more local obstacles.
I first met this guy on my first tour with Bangarra to Brisbane in 2003, after being initially shocked at meeting someone outside of the NT that has intimate knowledge of Katherine. Since then, we've kept in contact; it's good to have a mate to hang out with when I'm visiting the family at home.
PostSecret.
Reveal anything - as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before.
JPB turned me on to this one quite recently. There's a similar site that's also allows people to confess secrets but this one shows off other people's creativity as well. Whether or not these confessions are actually true is something else but it looks interesting, I'll be back.

Mashup of the Week Podcast.
Hey - back for another serving of Mash? Well we've always got plenty o' that for ya.
You can never OD on Mash. Trust me...
Miss McDonald.
The Miss McDonald project began as a Halloween costume...
Filipinos are funny, aren't they? This is truly bizarre and quite funny, especially the really mundane ones like when Miss McDonald goes to the dentist or when she cleans up the yard.
Random thoughts and occasional interesting information... but mainly random thoughts.
The thing about these blogs I like is these people have a purpose. And whatever shit happens to them along the way, they are still on the way to something.
I lived with Nina in Perth for three years when we were both going to WAAPA and it's good to see her out there in the world... somewhere... She's a singer, she's a creative type of person, and she likes a good drink.

An apology and a promise.
Posted August 18th, 2005 by jhunyI don't necessarily know who this is going out to but let me just say how sorry I am that I haven't been updating regularly over the last couple of weeks. Lots of things have happened but it's all a little bit too personal for me to write about it here (then what's the point of a blog then??? I ask myself...)
On the things I am more willing to write about, we're on tour in a few days now which will give me something not so personal to write about...
